A&O Prayer for God’s Will: Finding Your Direction in God

Written by Elder Michael Mooney during a two-year struggle to make some very important life-changing decisions.  This prayer was developed over that two-year period and brought together from notes in my journal. From there, it has been synthesized into one single prayer for discerning God's will.  I hope that believers everywhere will find comfort and direction in these words.  Below you will find the written prayer.  At the end you will see the prayer, and a link to download it if you like.  I challenge all who read it to pray it for 40 days, journaling along the way.  It is an amazing journey into knowing God closer that you may have never experienced before.  

Introduction to the Alpha & Omega Prayer

This prayer was written during a two-year season of seeking the Lord’s guidance through some of life’s most difficult and defining decisions. During that time, the Lord gently led me into deeper moments of reflection, surrender, and trust. Each line began as a personal note in my journal, written through prayer and tears, until they slowly came together as one united expression of faith and dependence upon God’s will.

It is my sincere hope that every believer who reads this prayer will find comfort, strength, and direction through these words. It is not meant to be recited for formality’s sake, but to invite a living encounter with the Holy Spirit. The prayer expresses a heart that is learning to trust God completely, even when the next step is uncertain.

I encourage you to pray it for forty days, recording in your journal what the Lord reveals during that time. It is a remarkable journey into knowing God more closely, where His peace becomes clearer and His purposes more certain.

A&O Prayer for God’s Will

Almighty God, I call unto You the Alpha and the Omega, the one who exists outside of time: forever past, forever present, forever future. (Rev 1:8)

You existed before everything, & deserve all the glory, honor, & praise; because you are the creator of all things & sustain them for your pleasure. (Col 1:16-17; Rev 4:11)

Therefore, as the source & perfecter of my faith, the purpose of my life is to please You. (Heb 12:2; Rev 4:11) For these reasons, GREAT I AM, I am dependent upon You as the divine answer to any problem I face. (Exo 3:14)

I call out that I may find favor in Your sight.  Please show me Your ways, so that I may know You & continue to find favor in Your sight. When my ways please you, even my enemies are ordered to be at peace with me. (Exo 33:13; Psa 90:16-17; Pro 16:7)

Father, my carnal heart is deceitful above all things.  It is desperately sick to deceive me for the sake of protecting my own will, & the foolish pride of my ego. (Jer 17:9)

I ask You to examine my thoughts. Reveal to me if I am on the wrong path. Lead me in everlasting truth. (Psa 139:23-24)

In my flesh, I can do nothing to please you or bring happiness even to myself. For my flesh leads only to idiocy, disappointment, regret, & frustration. (Ecc 7:12; Pro 16:25, 19:3; Joh 15:5)

Only You can separate me from the legacy of simply being one more fool on the records of history. I ask & am fully dependent upon You to rescue me from the folly of my own foolishness. (Pro 3:5-6, 4:7)

Holy Spirit, You are my helper & my advantage in life. It is my joy to come asking You, to soften my heart with Your desires. (Joh 14:26; Psa 34:4)

The soul of my existence is before You. For You keep records of me that even I do not care to know about myself. (Luke 12:7; Psa 139)

I ask for the guidance of Your wisdom, knowing that You will give it to me generously without finding fault for my asking. (Jas 1:5)

I desire You to order my steps so that I may find favor in Your sight. Therefore, I commit my path to You; entrusting that You will establish it. (Psa 37:5, 23; Pro 16:1, 3, 9, 33)

Make clear my path, & the doors which You are opening for me. For no man can open a door You close, nor close a door You open! (Rev 3:7)

Confirm Your leading in my spirit by the fruit of Your peace -even if it occurs apart from my own understanding. (Mat 10:13;Joh 14:27;Rom 8:16; Php 4:7)

I now rejoice in faith that You will order my steps. I take comfort in the assurance that You are in control of the outcome & are ever working all of it together for Your sovereign goodness (Psa 37:23-25; Pro 16:9, 33; Rom 8:28)

When I was born, You were there. You were my beginning. As I live, You are with me. Even when I open my eyes in eternity, still You will be there. For You are my Alpha & Omega! (Rev 1:8)
