Sample Marriage Vows for Christian Weddings

The symbols of marriage vows in a Christian wedding

National Association of Christian Ministers How to Series: Weddings

In Christian weddings, the exchange of vows is a significant moment where the couple makes promises to each other before God and witnesses. While there are traditional vows commonly used, couples also have the option to personalize their vows and make them more meaningful and specific to their relationship. Here are some examples of both traditional and personalized Christian wedding vows:

Traditional Christian Wedding Vows:

1. “I, [Name], take you, [Name], to be my wedded [wife/husband], to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part. According to God’s holy ordinance, I pledge you my faithfulness.”

2. “I, [Name], take you, [Name], to be my wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow.”

Personalized Christian Wedding Vows:

1. “I, [Name], take you, [Name], to be my best friend and partner in life. With God as our guide, I promise to love and support you unconditionally, to celebrate your joys, and to be a source of strength in times of hardship. I will cherish our relationship and honor our commitment, walking by your side through every season of life.”

2. “In the presence of God and our loved ones, I, [Name], choose you, [Name], to be my beloved spouse. I promise to be faithful and loyal, to encourage and inspire you in your dreams, and to always strive for a marriage rooted in Christ’s love. Together, we will build a home filled with compassion, forgiveness, and unwavering faith.”

Remember, these are just examples, and you can modify or create your own vows to reflect your unique relationship and beliefs. It’s important to discuss your vows with your partner and ensure that they accurately express your feelings and commitment to each other.
