National Association of Christian Ministers Summary Series: Theology

Why is theology important?

Theology seeks to understand mankind’s relationship to God.

    • Rationale: If God exists, nothing could be more important than to know Him. Therefore, theology is important.

Christian theology is the study of the nature of God, the relationship between God and humanity, the nature of Jesus Christ, and the role of faith and religion in human life. Christian theology is based on the Bible, which is considered the inspired word of God.

Central to Christian theology is the belief in one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is known as the doctrine of the Trinity. Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he came to earth to save humanity from sin and to offer eternal life through faith in him.

Another important aspect of Christian theology is the belief in the importance of the church and the community of believers. Christians believe that through the church, they can grow in their faith, support one another, and serve God.

Christian theology also emphasizes the importance of living a moral and ethical life, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and the principles outlined in the Bible. Christians believe that they are called to love their neighbors as themselves, to seek justice and mercy, and to live a life that reflects the love of God.

Overall, Christian theology is a rich and complex field that seeks to explore the nature of God and humanity, and to provide guidance for living a life of faith and service to God.
